Annie's new blog

Please go to Annie's new blog.
She wanted to write about her Type 1 diagnosis and journey since all this started.
Last night we got her set up (it's still a work in progress) and she posted her first blog.
If you get a chance please head over there and give her some love.
thank you!

yep, this sucks

About 5 hours after my last post I knew Annie had Type 1 diabetes.
I had sneaking suspicions for a couple weeks, but last Monday night I decided to check her after she kept talking about how thirsty she was. The meter showed off the charts--over 600. A 'normal' reading is about 100.
The next morning we were off to the doctor who direct admitted us to the hospital for 5 long days of her being poked, prodded, and made generally uncomfortable.
She is handling it well. Amazing how resilent kids are.
She had a lot of great visitors --friends from church and school, relatives and people who are close enough to be relatives.
Although we are finally home, this was only the first step on a journey that she will be on the rest of her life.
We learned a lot in the past week. She was TERRIFIED of needles, but is already giving all of her own shots. I want to b**** slap people who think I 'gave' it to her. She is organized and ready to take this thing head on. We now both know that hospitals are good places to keep alert in, sometimes you do know more than the nurse and have to get over the thought you are not as smart to get anything done. She has a lot of people who are supporting her and want her to be as healthy as can be and have a long life...that last lesson is the one I want her to hold onto in bad times.
Right now she is sleeping peacefully back in her bed, surrounded by the pugs she missed so much, snug and warm--and for this moment, that is enough.

I heart Shelfari

While I love my Kindle, I have a problem with not being able to see the cover of all the different books I have waiting to read. I get overwhelmed with the list of titles and instead of reading what I already bought, I go off to Amazon where I can see the pictures of book covers and end up buying something else.

Enter Shelfari...OMG...why did I not know about this earlier???

I LOVE being able to see the cover, organize my books, and actually SEE what I have.

It is awesome

It is going to suck all my free time cause I will sit here all day and enter my books.

It is going to solve all the world's problems.

You need to go here and check it out.

things I love..ok only 1 thing for today. Check this fan out, I want one.
Go here to see more. Warning: it costs more than I spend to feed my family for 3 weeks..
I love that it doesn't cause 'unpleasant buffeting', I never knew that the buffeting may have been unpleasant this whole time!

Fond Memories

Hey, I'm waiting for everyone to read the last entry and get some comments before continuing, but meanwhile, I'm going to post a couple pictures from my camera. These are all pictures that I picked because they're either cute or cute.
Is Sophie eating her paw?
Who is this handsome young fellow?
Reach for it!
Nothing like Mother/Daughter time!
Almost there!
Another bookworm has entered the family!
Thanks for looking!

North Carolina- Part 1- Day 1

Hey guys! I know it's been a while, but I'm going to blog our journey to North Carolina. We didn't take many pictures, so I'll just have to describe everything.
Of course, we got up early in the morning to head to the airport. (We had McDonald's for breakfast.) And when we get there, we don't even have a real chance to have a formal good-bye. All we had time for was the restrooms. By this point, I'm terrified of forgetting something going through security. (Foreshadow!)
We all take our shoes off (thankfully Dad was reminding me about that about 5 thousand times, so I remembered) get our electronics out, step through the think, and we think everything is going okay. Did we forget anything? Check our schedule again!
We forgot to take out our liquids. The guy who was checking all the baggage had to talk to Clay and I was so embarrassed.
When we get to the subway thing that will take us to our terminal, my stomach starts hurting because of all the anxiety. (I only got 4 hours of sleep.) Wyatt leads us to the gate (29 i think) and we wait, and wait, and wait, and wait. And finally we get to board.
I was kind of surprised at the way it looked inside, I thought it was going to be wider, but no, it's like, on 6 feet across, if we're lucky. Clay sat next to the window, me in the middle and Wyatt in the aisle.
Now, when we back out, my stomach has a horrible throb, I'm ready to go in tears and there is no turning back! Wyatt tried to comfort me (he is good!) and when we take off, I'm not crying, but I feel really nauseous.
I'm happy to say, that it wasn't all the bad. Even turbulance doesn't scare me. The only things I didn't like was, was when you felt weightless, and then you feel like your 1000 pounds.
When we landed, my stomach had no pain and I was ready to really start my adventure. I fell asleep in the car, so I don't really know how long it took to get to her home.
And I figured out my grandma's home was an RV. That night we had brownies, salad, and lasaunge. In that order! We fell asleep at about 1:00 am Eastern time.
Okay, that's it for the first day! Thanks Rach for the diary, that way I can always rememeber my first airplane ride! I'm looking forward to writing more later!

a night out

With the kids being in North Carolina,
Ken and I decided to do something fun.
We went to the BBQ joint
'Famous Daves'.
Shared a platter that was served on a
garbage can lid.
Lots and lots of food

Then we drove to Invesco Field
for the annual
Drums Along the Rockies.
There were 10 different corps
that played about 5 songs each.

These guys made me say "woman, where is my supersuit?"
They looked exactly like Frozone from the Incredibles.

These were my favorite.
The Troopers from Wyoming.
Before they started, they all came out
and set up camp using their instruments as props.
This group is sitting around the trumpet campfire.
Their color guard were dressed as Indians and their program
was about a Trooper who fell in love with one of the Indians
and the problems it caused.
Overall, a good night out.

Medieval Torture device

Side 1
Pruned

Side 2
not pruned
because those suckers hurt!!

( i have started pruning side 2
but due to the combination
of thorns as big as my thumbnail
and bad coordination
i will not be doing the rest by myself
in case being unsupervised causes
additional accidents resulting in
seeking medical assistance
Plus--there is a really big
window well and if I fell in I know I
couldnt get my huge hinny out of it)

flowers after the storm

Every afternoon for about the
last 3 weeks we have gotten rain.

I think I would like to be a flower,
until it gets hot again.
Then I would like to be
a bee.

Sophie summer vacation #6

Sophie apologizes for not emailing us
with updates.
She has been shopping and
is thinking about getting
this poster for her room.
She has been laying in the sun
many hours a day.
Being lazy and eating treats.
She hopes Annie is doing ok.
But she is glad that she
got to go on vacation
and take a break from
keeping Annie warm at night.
She is planning on
going swimming soon,
but is a little afraid of sharks
so if she does go
she will send us pictures.

Sophie summer vacation #5

Today was another beautiful day.
I went on a 'jungle trek' that was very
easy..and included a photo shoot.
I hope you enjoy these
flattering, colorful shots of moi.

After the photo shoot and jungle trek
we got to go to a local golf course and
have free time.
I chose to run around in circles until
I got tired and needed a break...it took
about 3 minutes.
goodbye until tomorrow

Sophie summer vacation #4

Whoo-hooo
party like it's 1999!!

Dear Annie,
I did not drink (too)much.
I did not meet a cute pug from Australia.
I did not stay out until 3 am....
I did not dance all night long, or lose my
collar, or wake up on the beach..
with someone else's handkerchief
around my neck.
I am sleeping in..after
I take a headache pill.
love, Sophie

Sophie summer vacation #3

This is the life!
I am reading a great princess book
and having my nails done
at the same time!!
The hands belong to my
cabana boy who fetches
cold drinks for me and also
acts as my personal book holder.
He is a little slow turning the pages
but I have hopes that he will get faster.
I spent today on the beach and although I
was worried about getting sunburned
and ruining my complexion I enjoyed
my time there.
Tonight I am hitting a disco
so will have pictures for you tomorrow of
that adventure.

Sophie's summer vacation #2

Sophie has arrived!
this is what she had to say...
"ALOHA!! boy was that flight long!
I am here but as you can see I am very tired.
I was so glad I took my security rock withe me.
I sat next to a nice lady who opened my meal for
me which was very helpful since I don't have
opposable thumbs.
Tomorrow I am headed for the beach and
I am looking forward to hanging out
and reading.
Tell Annie I hope she is doing well
and I can't wait to hear the story
about the snake!"

leaving colorado

Sophie is in the air right now
flying to her summer vacation destination.
She hopes Annie is doing ok.

Check back later today to see
how Sophies flight went.
She promises to email me when she arrives
at her hotel.

Sophie's summer vacation #1

Annie left last night for a
2 week vacation at
Tami's house in Holly.
Before she left she gave me
very specific instructions about how
to treat Sophie while she was gone.
But Sophie had other ideas.

Sophie decided to go on a little vacation on her own
and wanted me to take pictures to show Annie that she was ok.
This morning Sophie surfed the web to find her perfect vacation spot.
She decided on something tropical and secluded.
She booked the flight and hotel after finding the perfect location.
She is excited to leave tomorrow for her
big summer vacation!!
check back then for more

You should go here,
pick out a couple of your pictures and
play around!

I didn't have any good ones
with a lot of buildings,
but here is one I took in Disney World.
The website lets you manipulate
the pic and make it look
like you took a picture of a mini model of the scene.
My original is below for comparisions.
Kind of cool
